What better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than with tickets to the exciting Broadway Musical Suffs. The story of the heroic work of Alice Paul and her fellow suffragists comes to life in an ambitious new musical created by Shaina Taub, who wrote the music, lyrics and book, and also stars as Alice Paul herself. After a limited run at the Public Newman Theater last year, Suffs has moved uptown to the Music Box Theater, with opening night schedule for March 26th.
Suffs tells the story of the woman suffrage movement in the years leading up to the passage of the 19th Amendment, beginning in 1913 with the planning of the famous Washington DC march to raise public awareness of women’s demands for the vote, and ending with the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Along the way we meet a host of characters, from Carrie Chapman Catt to Ida B. Wells-Barnett to the indomitable Lucy Burns.
Suffs will be at the Music Box Theater, 239 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036. Telecharge: (212-239-6200). For the whole story check out the website: http://www.suffsmusical.com.
