Congratulations to the American Association of University Women, the Islip area branch, for their success at establishing the beginning of the Suffrage Trail on Long Island, documenting places where suffragists lived and worked. \u00a0On Saturday, April 1, 2017, AAUW Vice-President \u00a0Nancy Mion welcomed AAUW members, local\u00a0dignitaries and Coline\u00a0Jenkins, great-great- granddaughter of suffrage leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton to the festivities at the Shoreham Village Hall to celebrate.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe wanted to start a trail in the most auspicious place we could and, we decided there\u2019s no better place than Shoreham,\u201d said Nancy Mion. \u201cWe\u2019re so fortunate that on Long Island, in Shoreham, we are a hotbed of people involved in the movement,\u201d she said. \u201cIf we\u2019re going to start, we might as well start at the top … and after years of dreaming and hoping, it\u2019s real. We\u2019re going to educate individuals and continue the history of women. We\u2019re very proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
