Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) has sent a letter to the United States Postal Service’s Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee requesting a commemorative stamp to honor the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
Monday, November 5, 2018, marks the centennial anniversary of the election of Ida Bunce Sammis to the New York State Assembly. Ida Bunce Sammis was an active suffragist, and her election to the NY State Assembly made history. Congressman Suozzi will announce his request for a commemorative stamp to honor the 19th Amendment and the local women who were at the forefront of the women’s suffrage movement on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the former home of Ida Sammis in Huntington. It was at this home where Ida Sammis held meetings and rallies promoting women’s right to vote.
We hope you can join us Monday morning, November 5, 2018, 10:30am at 70 Main Street in Huntington to celebrate this wonderful achievement of another remarkable Long Island suffragist. Suffrage dress is welcome!
