It’s Women’s History Month!

Welcome to Women’s History Month, an annual national celebration of the extraordinary achievements and contributions of American women. The celebration began as Women’s History Week in 1982, and soon grew to include the entire month of March. It is supported by Presidential proclamation every year. This year’s theme is “Nevertheless, she persisted.”

There is a vast collection of information and websites to explore during the celebration. A great place to begin is the site of the National Women’s History project, whose efforts in 1980 began the whole celebration. Check out their website at http://nwhp.org.

I started my celebration by staging an exhibit in the Hauppauge Public Library, commemorating the Woman Suffrage Movement. I’ll be speaking there on Monday, March 26th at 7pm. If you are in the Hauppauge area, stop in and see the exhibit, or catch my presentation on March 26th. And watch this site for suggestions of other sites and celebrations throughout this exciting month.
