The Long Island Woman Suffrage Association was honored to sponsor two awards at the Long Island History Day competition, held this year on March 19 at Hofstra University. The theme this year was “Taking a Stand.”
Julia Klayman and Ariella Ziarno, from the Woodmere Middle School, won for their Junior Group Exhibit, “Alice Paul: Suffering for Suffrage.” Ms. Klayman’s and Ms. Ziarno’s ambitious and fact-filled exhibit has been chosen to compete in the New York State competition on April 24 in Cooperstown, NY.
Catherine Sang and Nolani Kennedy-White, from Jericho High School, won for the Senior Performance Group, “Suffragists and Suffragettes: Two Movements, One Stand.”
We congratulate all these young scholars, and are thrilled and proud that they chose to spotlight woman suffrage issues for their projects.
